RE:     GROUP DIVE IN BONNE TERRE MINE

Last week, it was "Our World Underwater." This weekend the annual "Chicago Maritime Festival" takes place. Next month, the "Ghost Ships Festival" in Milwaukee returns, and the month after that the "Ford Seahorses Shipwreck Festival" is back in Michigan.

All these dive shows sure make me want to go diving. How about you?
It's too cold to dive in Chicago and too costly and time consuming to go to Cozumel or Bonaire. So I've been looking for a way to split the difference, and I decided to try to plan a trip this winter (or early spring) to Bonne Terre Mine, in Missouri. If you've never been there, the former mine today contains a billion-gallon underwater lake, where water temperatures are 60 degrees year round and visibility is up to 100 feet.
The dive operation provides packages including dives and lodging. For example, a 2-night stay with 5 dives costs $370.00. All dives include a tank and guide to specific underwater features (there are a couple dozen from which to choose). You can rent additional equipment (a full scuba set up if needed).

Naturally, in addition to certification and equipment, you need BUDDIES to dive. So I'm interested in organizing a UASC group trip to Bonne Terre on one of the 3 proposed weekends listed below. Bonne Terre is some 350 miles from Chicago -- southwest of St. Louis -- about a 7-hour drive. We're talking about leaving sometime Friday morning and returning after the final dive on Sunday.

If you are interested in diving in Bonne Terre, please let me know. Send me an e-mail (or call me at (708) 932-5737). And tell me which weekend is your first choice=8Awhich one second.

Proposed Dates:
  1. March 28 - 30, 2008
  2. April 11 - 13, 2008
  3. April 25 -27, 2008

I hope we can go there this year as a group. I think it will be fun! And perhaps a good training dive for anyone who needs some more diving.
