Hello Everyone,

The next meeting of the Underwater Archaeology Society of Chicago will be Wednesday, July 25, at the Chicago Maritime Museum, 1200 W 35th St, Chicago, IL. This is in the Bridgeport Art Center Building. Enter at the door under the awning that says North Entrance off the north parking lot and go downstairs. We will start the meeting at 7:00pm.

We are planning on making some survey dives on the "Mystery Wreck" and a couple of other options. We plan on having the same arrangement we had last year with Double Action Charters, with Sunday afternoon dives reasonably priced. Keep an eye out for an announcement on dates.

We also have plans to set a plaque for Bob Gadbois on one of his favorite wrecks.

Our speaker this month will be fellow member Sam Polonetzky. The topic will be “Crossing of the Chicago River by the State Street Subway.” During the presentation, he will show the actual motion pictures of the construction of the Subway in 1938-40.

Mr. Polonetzky is a Civil Engineer who served the City of Chicago, Department of Streets & Sanitation for thirty five years, rising from Engineer-In-Training to Acting Chief Engineer. During this tenure he acquired a deep knowledge of Chicago’s Public rights-of-way and the underground infrastructure. He is also an active member of the Illinois Railway Museum at Union Illinois, (nee the Illinois Electric Railway Museum at North Chicago, Illinois) and is a Life Member of the American Public Works Association.
